What your stock is worth: lots, FIFO and cost per mat

Inventory → item → Costing: raw materials lot by lot at their landed rates, and the actual cost of every mat in stock.

What is the rubber and the mats in the store worth, and why?

Open the item in Inventory and its Costing tab. Bought materials show each lot left and its rate; finished mats show the cost per piece of what is in stock.

1Raw materials: lots and FIFO

WhereInventory → On Hand → Purchased → click the material → Costing

  1. 1InventoryIn the left menu. On Hand opens first.

  4. 4Costing tabWhat the stock in hand is worth, lot by lot.
On hand, then FIFO blended rate, then Total value, then Lots still in stock
  1. 1On hand932.67 kg in the store.
  2. 2FIFO blended rate₹100.97/kg: the average of the lots still left, by quantity.
  3. 3Total value₹94,170.29 of oil in stock.
  4. 4Lots still in stockEach GRN with what is left of it and its landed rate: ₹110, ₹100 and ₹85.

2FIFO: oldest lot first, automatically

Nobody picks lots when logging. Each time production uses a material, Trakto takes it from the oldest lot still in stock, then the next. An example:

Lot A (Sept)Lot B (Oct)Cost
In stock100 kg @ ₹100500 kg @ ₹110₹65,000
A log uses 150 kgtakes all 100 kgtakes 50 kg₹10,000 + ₹5,500 = ₹15,500 (₹103.33/kg)
Left—450 kg @ ₹110₹49,500

The log shows which lot each kg came from; the material's Costing tab shows what is left of each lot.

3FIFO or weighted average

Each bought material has a valuation method, set on the item (Edit Item).

FIFO (default)Weighted average (WAC)
Stock usedOldest lot firstMixed: scooped from any bag or drum
Rate of what is usedThe rate of the lot it came fromThe running average of all stock
Costing tab showsEach lot left, with its rateThe pool and its average rate

Either way, the Wtd Avg Cost card on the Details tab is the average rate of what is in stock now.
